1 killed in attack on Bangladesh air force base


At least one person was killed as “some criminals” launched an attack on an air force base in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar district on Monday, the military has confirmed. As per sources, the victim, who was identified as a 30-year-old local trader Shihab Kabir, was reportedly shot dead.

In a brief statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the public relations division of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, said the unprecedented attack at the base in Samiti Para area led to a confrontation.

“Some criminals from Samity Para, adjacent to the Cox’s Bazar Air Force base, launched an attack on the Cox’s Bazar Air Force base. The Bangladesh Air Force is taking the necessary measures in this regard.”

Authorities have said that people were injured, but did not specify the exact number.

Medical sources said the victim sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation. He was pronounced dead at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin stated that an investigation would be conducted to determine what led to the attack, adding that action would be initiated against the perpetrators.

Security measures have been intensified in the area as authorities work to assess the situation and prevent further escalation.
