A Jeju Air flight from Bangkok veered off the runway and struck a fence while landing at Muan International Airport in South Korea on Sunday, resulting in at least 23 casualties among the 181 people on board, Yonhap news agency reported.
“175 passengers, 6 crew members aboard plane crashed at Muan airport,” Yonhap reported, adding that 23 people were confirmed injured or dead.
Photos shared by local media showed smoke coming out of the plane. One person was found alive as the rescue mission continued, according to Yonhap.
The incident occurred at 9:07 a.m. local time at the southwestern coastal airport, which serves as a key regional hub for South Korea’s South Jeolla Province.
This marks the first major incident at Muan International.
