NEW DELHI: Aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has revealed that Air India cancelled 83 wide-body flights between June 12 and June 17, 2025 (till 6 PM), including 66 operated by Boeing 787 aircraft.The disclosure comes amid heightened scrutiny of the airline’s operations following a recent fatal crash and a series of disruptions. The DGCA has been conducting enhanced safety surveillance of Air India’s Boeing 787 fleet, though it recently confirmed that no major safety concerns were found during inspections.The cancellations are believed to have been triggered by multiple factors, including extended aircraft turnaround times due to precautionary checks, airspace restrictions over West Asia, and ongoing maintenance work on several aircraft.Air India operates 33 Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft, 24 of which had completed mandatory safety checks by June 17. The remaining aircraft are either undergoing major maintenance or awaiting return to service.DGCA has advised the airline to improve coordination across departments and ensure availability of spare parts to minimize passenger disruption.
