At least five people have sustained injuries in a stabbing incident near Amsterdam’s central Dam Square, and a suspect has been taken into custody, the Amsterdam police said on Thursday. A police spokesperson has not yet been able to confirm the motive behind the attack.
Following the incident, the Dutch police have cordoned off an area that includes Dam Square. An emergency helicopter has been deployed, with footage circulating on social media showing the helicopter in front of the Royal Palace.
Emergency vehicles can also be seen within the restricted zone. Authorities are requesting individuals who have captured images of the incident to share them as potential evidence.
