Magnitude 6.0 earthquake strikes off coast of Hokkaido


A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan, on Sunday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).

This earthquake comes just three days after a magnitude 6.1 tremor struck off the southeastern coast of the Nemuro Peninsula, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). That quake’s epicentre was located at latitude 42.8N and longitude 146.4E. No injuries, damage, or tsunami warning were reported at the time.

As of now, there are no immediate reports of casualties or damage from Sunday’s quake, and no tsunami alert has been issued. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
