Francois Bayrou named as new French Prime Minister

French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Francois Bayrou as France’s new Prime Minister. Francois Bayrou, a 73-year-old centrist ally of Macron, faces immediate challenges including passing a special law to extend the 2024 budget and navigating the 2025 budget legislation. He will lead a government in a hung parliament divided into three rival blocs, a situation that led to the collapse of his predecessor’s government.
