Jasprit Bumrah engaged in some light-hearted banter after the third day’s play in the third Test against Australia. Speaking to the press at the Gabba, Bumrah kept the mood upbeat even when a journalist questioned his batting abilities.
The exchange began when a journalist asked Bumrah for his thoughts on India’s batting performance in the first innings of the third Test. While admitting that Bumrah might not be the ideal person to comment on batting, the journalist said he still wanted to hear the vice-captain’s perspective.
Bumrah was quick to respond, cheekily reminding the journalist of his world record for the most runs scored in a single over in Test cricket.
Reporter: “Hi, Jasprit. What is your assessment of the batting, although you are not the best person to answer the question, but what do you think about the situation of the team, considering the conditions in Gabba?”
Bumrah: “It’s an interesting question. But, you are questioning my batting ability. You should use Google and see who has got the most number of runs in a Test over. But, jokes apart. That’s another story.”

Bumrah’s witty response elicited laughter from the journalists in the room.
The India vice-captain was referring to his famous 34-run over against Stuart Broad in Birmingham in 2022, where he smashed the veteran England pacer for three boundaries and as many sixes during a Test match.
On Monday, however, India’s top order struggled against Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins. India ended a rain-affected day in Brisbane at 51 for 4, trailing Australia’s first-innings total of 445.
BUMRAH TAKES SIX IN BRISBANE
While Bumrah may not be known for his batting prowess, his greatness with the ball remains undisputed. The Indian vice-captain showcased his mastery with a six-wicket haul in the first innings of the Brisbane Test.
Bumrah led from the front, ensuring India struck at regular intervals despite a mammoth 241-run partnership between Travis Head and Steve Smith, both of whom scored centuries to propel Australia to a commanding total.
Bumrah continues to dominate the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, leading the wicket charts with 18 dismissals in just five innings. On Monday, he also became only the second Indian bowler, after the legendary Kapil Dev, to take 50 Test wickets in Australia.
