India lose 0-1 to Hong Kong as pressure rises on coach Manolo Marquez

India’s miseries piled up, as did the pressure on their already under-fire head coach Manolo Marquez after the side suffered yet another defeat in their AFC Asian Cup qualification campaign – this time a 1-0 loss to Hong Kong on June 10 at Kowloon’s Kai Tak Sports Park. An added-time penalty converted by Stephan Pereira ultimately gave Hong Kong the victory, pushing India down to the bottom of their Group C, having already drawn their previous fixture against Bangladesh.

This compounds problems that extend beyond just the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers for head coach Manolo Marquez, as India entered this crucial fixture on the back of a disastrous 3-0 loss to Thailand in an international friendly.
