Iran’s Khamenei says attack at US base a heavy slap to America, declares victory

In his first address since a brief war with Israel, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Thursday spoke about the US airstrikes on its key nuclear sites, saying there was not much damage and that the US could not achieve much. In a video message, he said that US President Donald Trump needed showmanship in his approach towards the conflict.

On June 21, the US got directly involved in the 12-day Israel-Iran conflict and bombed the Islamic Republic’s key nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

“Congratulations for the victory of our dear Iran over the American regime. The American regime entered into direct war because it felt that if it did not, the Zionist regime would be completely destroyed. However, it achieved nothing from this war. Here too, the Islamic Republic emerged victorious and, in return, delivered a hard slap to America’s face,” a post from his X account said.

This came days after Khameni posted on social media, saying, “Iran will not accept any harassment from anyone under any circumstances. And we will not submit to anyone’s harassment. This is the logic of the Iranian nation”.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
