‘It’s a shame’: Donald Trump reacts to Florida University shooting

At least six people were injured in a shooting at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday. One of the victims is in critical condition, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare said. The other five victims are in serious condition, CNN said.

The shooting occurred outside the Student Union on the main campus of the university.

Reacting to the tragedy, US President Donald Trump lamented the incident. “It’s a shame, it’s a horrible thing,” he said.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his support, writing, “Our prayers are with our FSU family and state law enforcement is actively responding.”

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed that his office was also actively responding to the situation on the FSU campus.

As soon as the shooting was reported, FSU activated an alert on X, noting an “active shooter in Student Union area.” The message asked everyone on campus to seek shelter at once, “Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions. Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures.”

As a precaution, all classes and events for Thursday were cancelled. University administrators called on individuals who were not on the main campus to avoid the area. Those who need emergency service were instructed to call 911 or contact FSU Police at 850-644-1234.
