One person was killed and several others were seriously injured after a car drove into a crowd in the Western German city of Mannheim, German police said.
A police operation was underway in the city centre, according to news agency Reuters.
The incident occurred as crowds gathered in cities across regions, including Germany’s Rhineland, for parades marking the carnival season.
