Spy wars: Israel’s Mossad shares rare video of covert ops deep inside Iran

Israel’s Mossad spy agency has released rare footage of covert operations conducted deep inside Iran, showcasing the intelligence agency’s role in clearing the path for Israel’s massive airstrikes on Iranian targets on Friday.

The video shows drones attacking what appear to be unsuspecting missile launchers inside Iran under the military campaign dubbed Operation Rising Lion. Israeli officials say the operation involved smuggling precision-guided weapons and establishing a drone base within Iran to disable key air defence systems.

Under the cover of darkness, Mossad commandos infiltrated central Iran and gathered critical on-ground intel and helped neutralise radar systems and S-300 anti-aircraft batteries with weapons they smuggled in, enabling Israeli jets to enter Iranian airspace, The Times of Israel reported.

The footage is believed to show precision drone strikes on missile sites near Tehran. According to security officials, the mission allowed Israel’s air force to conduct more than 100 coordinated strikes using over 200 aircraft early Friday morning. Israel claimed no aircraft were lost.

The release of such footage by Mossad is extremely rare, but drives home the message that it can penetrate deep into Iran and carry out strikes surgically.

The Israeli offensive struck hard at Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure. Among the dead, according to Israeli and regional media reports, were Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the armed forces, Gen. Hossein Salami, commander of the Revolutionary Guard, and Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the Guard’s missile program. Two top nuclear scientists were also killed, alongside several other high-ranking Revolutionary Guard officials.

This strategic move was part of Israel’s broader effort to neutralise Iran’s missile capabilities and air defence systems, ensuring air superiority for subsequent Israeli airstrikes.

In retaliation, Iran launched Operation True Promise, a large-scale missile attack targeting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Israel’s paramedic service reported that the barrage left at least 34 people wounded and claimed one life.
