Cincinnati police announced that two people are dead and two others are in critical condition following a shooting in the city’s Mt. Washington neighbourhood on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at an apartment complex located in the 1500 block of Beacon Street, the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) said.
Officers were nearby at the time and witnessed the shooting as it happened.
“When our officers arrived a few moments later, they observed four individuals being shot,” said Lt. Jonathan Cunningham of the Cincinnati Police Department. “Of the four individuals, we do know that the shooter shot himself and attempted to take his own life.”
Lt. Cunningham also expressed condolences to those affected.
“Truly, a tragedy today,” said Cunningham. “The pain is very widespread, being felt by those involved — by our officers, by our residential community here. It’s very sad.”
According to CPD, the shooter fired shots both inside and outside the residence. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
With the suspected shooter now hospitalized, police say there is no ongoing threat to the community. Both the shooter and one surviving victim are receiving treatment at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Beacon Street is currently closed as the investigation continues.
This is a developing story and will be updated later.
