India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal roared in celebration as he brought up his century on Day 1 of the first Test against England on Friday, June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. Jaiswal brought up his hundred in the second session as he got involved in a crucial stand with captain Shubman Gill.
The southpaw whacked 16 fours and a six en route to his fifth Test ton, becoming the just the fifth Indian batter to score a century in their maiden innings in England. After achieving the landmark on the brink of tea, Jaiswal was overjoyed as he took a giant leap and punched the air in delight while completing his 100th run.

He also became the first India opener to score a century in Leeds. He also continued his love affair with scoring heavily in overseas conditions as he notched up a magnificent 171, during the first debut Test against West Indies in Dominica and also scored 161 in his very Test in Australia in Perth back in November 2024.
With his century, Jaiswal also continued his love affair with England, registering his third century against them. He also finished as the highest run scorer, during the five-match series against the Three Lions played in India in 2024. The southpaw accumulated 712 runs from nine innings at an average of 89.
Coming back to the match, Jaiswal got involved in a massive 91-run stand for the first wicket with KL Rahul after England captain put India into bat after winning the toss. However, their partnership came to an end after England managed to take two quick wickets on the stroke of lunch.
Post lunch, Jaiswal added 129 runs for the second wicket with Shubman Gill as the duo brought India into ascendancy. Jaiswal was finally dismissed on 101 (159), losing his stumps against Ben Stokes after tea.
