Days after announcing she would not contest the 2026 California governor race, former US Vice President Kamala Harris explained her decision, saying she is stepping away from political office for the time being, describing the system as ‘broken’. Offering a blunt critique of the current American political landscape, Harris expressed her disillusionment, calling it a ‘capitulation’ to the Donald Trump administration.
“That has been my career and recently I made the decision that I, just for now, I don’t want to go back in the system. I think it’s broken,” Harris said in CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, her first interview after losing the Presidential Election to Donald Trump.
