Carlos Alcaraz is aiming to make it to his third straight Wimbledon final as he takes on Taylor Fritz in the first semi-final of the day. Both men have been tested over the course of the tournament this year and it the No.2 seed taking on the No.4 one. Fritz coach has been vocal of what to expect from Alcaraz and wants his ward to stop the wave before it even begins.
“That’s part of the intangibles that Carlos has, his ability to explosively move around the court and his variety,” Russell told ATPTour.com. “He’s able to serve and volley, he’s able to hit drop shots, he’s got great touch, and he’s also able to hit winners from a lot of different court positions. So you expect him to hit some amazing shots and the crowd’s going to be entertained.
Both men have been two of the best on grass over the years, winning some of the tournaments on their way to the semi-final.
Djokovic vs Sinner
Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner are set for yet another blockbuster clash when they meet in the Wimbledon 2025 men’s singles semi-final on Friday, July 11, on Centre Court. Djokovic is aiming to equal Roger Federer’s record for the most Wimbledon titles, while Sinner is looking to reach his first final at the All England Club.
Djokovic has competed at Wimbledon finals in six consecutive seasons since 2017. However, he faces a tough challenge to reach a seventh straight final at SW19, as Sinner has proven a difficult opponent in recent encounters. The 38-year-old Djokovic hasn’t beaten Sinner since the 2023 ATP Finals, with the Italian winning their last four meetings.
Djokovic fell short in both 2023 and 2024, losing in the finals to five-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz, who is now chasing a third consecutive Wimbledon title. Djokovic is also in pursuit of a historic 25th Grand Slam title, a milestone he’s been eyeing since winning the US Open in 2023.
Djokovic is also dealing with a minor injury concern after he slipped during the dying stages of his match against Flavio Cobolli of Italy. Djokovic won the match 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 in three hours and 11 minutes.
Sinner, meanwhile, benefited from a stroke of luck in the fourth round when Grigor Dimitrov retired from their match. However, he looked in superb form in the quarter-finals, defeating American Ben Shelton 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. While Sinner has had the upper hand recently, Djokovic remains a formidable opponent capable of turning the tide.
